REN21: Reporting on Impact
Conceptualization and design of the UNECE Renewable Energy Status Report for REN21 and development of a regional social media campaign around its release.

THE CHALLENGE
Conceptualise and visualize complex information in an engaging manner in a report for a publication entitled Renewable Energy Status Report. Complement this with a social media campaign and digital assets that highlight the report.
THE OUTCOME
A 168-page publication meticulously designed to showcase the information in an easy-to-read, web-optimised way. Within the report, we conceptualized and designed a series of infographics and followed it with a regional social media campaign, including web banners.

REN21 is the only global renewable energy community of actors from science, governments, NGOs, and industry. It provides up-to-date, peer-reviewed facts, figures, and analysis of global developments in technology, policies, and markets. REN21 aims to enable decision-makers to make the shift to renewable energy.
Future by Design Studio was pleased to have the opportunity to conceptualize and design a detailed publication for REN21. The 168-page document outlines the work REN21 is doing, its achievements, and key facts and figures.
In approaching the design for the report, we considered three cover proposals adjusted to the region's sensitivity regarding political borders. The first proposal presented a map displayed in circles rather than traditional borders, focusing on renewable energy icons. The second proposal used polygons for the same reason, to avoid showing the borders. Finally, the third proposal creatively featured three region-specific renewable sources captured in silhouette photography within a human outline. These approaches aimed to effectively communicate the importance of renewables in the region while being mindful of political sensitivities and emphasizing sustainability through innovative design
Across seven chapters, each page was carefully curated to ensure the content flowed while highlighting key takeaways and images. Over 260 experts contributed to the REN21 UNECE report, and we were proud to have the opportunity to showcase those insights. Alongside the report, we developed key assets for social media highlighting the report, web page banners and email signatures to promote the work.
