The storyteller’s studio

Long before she became an animation director and illustrator, Yaka Hara spent her childhood inventing characters and filling notebooks with imagined worlds. Today, Yaka Hara creates illustrations and animations that begin, as they always have, with a story. 

Raised between Hong Kong and Japan and now based in Berlin, she moves fluidly between animation, illustration, comics, and zines, always guided by a love of narrative. Whatever the medium, Yaka is drawn to the same challenge: discovering how a story can come alive and finding the most compelling way to tell it.
